Non-Comedogenic Cosmetics
Acne, blemishes, breakouts… they are the most unpredictable
skin issue. I get it, I’ve had sensitive, acne-prone skin my entire life and I
know it seems natural to layer on thick, heavy makeup to try and mask it but
there’s a much better and innovative way now. Our days of hiding behind thick
layers of foundation is finally over!
Products like non
comedogenic foundations, drying concealers, and color correctors are made
specifically for reactive, sensitive, and acne-prone skin. Choosing the right
products for your skin will reduce acne cosmetics, or acne induced by cosmetics.
Non Comedogenic Foundations
Most are color-correcting, and provide full coverage. Some
are even infused with anti-aging skincare and SPF for added protection against harmful
UV rays. If you have oily skin, opt for matte finishes to reduce shine and
control oil. The formula should also be light and oil-free, without parabens,
talc, SLS, mineral oil, and synthetic fragrances. These are the ingredients
that target irritation in the skin and cause acne.
Drying Concealers
This type of concealer is formulated not just to even out
your skin tone but also dry out your pimples. Some products can even work like
a full coverage concealer. This is great especially for extremely oily skin because
it doesn’t move throughout the day.
You can dot it directly on the blemish before or after your
foundation. You can use the built-in applicator that comes with it or use a
cotton swap for a more hygienic approach. Then use a small brush to gently tap
the out corners of the concealer. This is going to give that flawless full
coverage but still make it look natural at the same time.
This is also buildable so you can layer on areas that may
need more coverage.
Breakout Powders
You can use this for a poreless, flawless finish. A little
on the top of the lid goes a long way. You just tap it with your brush, then
buff and smooth it on as a finishing touch. This will minimize blemishes and cut
the shine for those with oily skin. Good formulations shouldn’t crease or crack
even as you build.
One of the most common causes of acne is clogged pores. This
is exacerbated by cosmetics with pore-clogging makeup and skincare. Non-comedogenic
products are revolutionary in that it reduces the amount of bacteria that can
act on sebum to produce irritating substances, resulting in inflammation and subsequently,
acne. Those who are prone to pimples
and have sensitive skin should always go for non comedogenic cosmetics.
